I went back and forth on whether to have this section at all. The rest of the site is easy: cloud infrastructure, cars, the odd tutorial. Nobody has to think very hard about whether to publish a post on EV charging. This is different, and I wanted to be honest about that before writing anything else.

What I'm hoping for

When I was working things out, the writing that helped most wasn't the dramatic stuff. It was people being plain and practical about what they did, what it involved, and what they'd do differently. Forms, phone calls, decisions, small wins. That's the kind of thing I want to write, because it's the kind of thing I wished I could find.

Some of it is also just the engineer in me. I built tools to manage parts of this, because that's how I cope with anything complicated. Those are worth writing up on their own.

Why there's a fence

You'll have seen the list on the main page of what I will and won't write about. That isn't me being coy. It's me deciding in advance, calmly, so that I don't have to decide in the moment every time I sit down to write. Lines you draw before you need them are a lot easier to hold.

They might move. If they do, I'll change the list, and that will be the whole announcement.

What this isn't

It isn't advice. I'm one person with one set of circumstances, and the things that worked for me may not work for you. It isn't a diary, either. There's no promise of regular updates and no obligation to read in order.

It's just a few stories, written down carefully, in case they're useful to someone.
